This project was an 1880’s single family home with a stone foundation used for storage and utilities access. Tom was born and raised in this home and desired to fix the extreme water and mud problem to immediately stop further damage to his family’s heritage. As the years passed by, it seemed the repair was moving further and further out of reach as the basement problems continued to advance in severity. There were areas where water was forcefully passing through the base of the stone walls and literally creating river like streams across the basement floor. A deep sense of care for his family home was the driving factor for this restoration project.
The first step was to repair compromised areas of the stone walls that were allowing significant water and mud penetration. A full interior perimeter below floor drainage system with sump pump was installed to protect the basement from ground water and flooding. The existing concrete floor was deteriorated so badly, that a new 4” concrete basement floor was needed to cover the damp soil to create usable floor space.
Today, the basement has been transformed into a dry space where the home’s utilities are no longer in danger of water. Tom was so confident that he decided to upgrade some of his utilities. The entire floor space is now accessible to all areas of the basement and allows for maximum storage capacity and organization. The dampness is gone, and the basement problems no longer threaten the homes living space above. Tom was able to proceed with other home renovations with full confidence.
