This project was a 1967 single family home with concrete block foundation and finished basement. In 2003, two years after purchasing the home, Patricia had a waterproofing system installed by a national brand waterproofing company. A lack of response for warranty service to address 18 years of chronic issues caused high levels of stress. In 2021, still in need of assistance with the basement, Patricia called BWN, “One of my sump pumps is clogged. I had water and mud come in after the most recent rain. Had a plumber come out but could not take the lid off because the bolts rusted onto the system.” Water and mud were entering through an opening created from the collapsed right rear corner of basement. Water was entering the basement on the lightest of rains, mud covered the carpet, there was a strong musty smell, and severe mold had devastated the finished basement.
The first step was to demo the finished basement and remove all damaged wall and floor coverings. Structural repair was needed to fix the collapsed right rear wall to restore the structural integrity of the basement foundation and stop the mud. This was accomplished by constructing a supporting reinforced concrete block wall and installing steel I-Beams. The walls were disinfected to safeguard the basement from mold. Waterproofing services included a full perimeter interior below floor drainage system, a sump pump and wall service to stop the water and mold.
Today, the basement is a clean environment with no dampness or musty smell. The foundation is solid, and the waterproofing system is protecting the basement from water and mud through heavy rainstorms. Patricia and daughter Claire are no longer worried their basement wall will collapse. Concerns of health risks from the basement mold are gone.
